Job Overview:
Position Description:
Under limited supervision and at the direction of the Foreman, this position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the distribution system according to established processes to assure delivery of potable water that meets or exceeds all federal, state and local regulations and general maintenance of Authority grounds and equipment.

Responsibilities & Duties, including but not limited to:
• Meter reading by walking an established route and entering readings on hand-held meter reading computer with accuracy and speed
• Distribute delinquent notices
• Install, replace, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair meters and remotes
• Install, repair, flush, locate, and mark water lines
• Install and repair water valves and fittings on water lines including mains and service lines
• Install, repair, replace, and raise/lower valve boxes and curb boxes 
Install, repair, maintain, and flush fire hydrants
• Perform maintenance on water tanks, which may include climbing or entering tanks
• Maintain water authority grounds, including snow removal, mowing, trimming, etc.
• Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance of power tools, hand tools, and other equipment
• Maintain Authority-owned vehicle fleet, including cleaning inside and out and routine preventative maintenance
• Maintain booster pump station including pumps, motors, controls, instrumentation, grounds, etc.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for all work performed
• Perform leak detection
• Light janitorial duties including trash removal, seasonal window washing, stocking, sweeping, organizing, restrooms, etc.
• Perform emergency on-call duties:
o Act as primary point of contact for emergency & after-hours calls according to a rotating on-call schedule as assigned by the Authority Manager and/or Foreman
o Mandatory on-scene response time of 30 minutes or less
o Assist with emergency repairs as directed by the Foreman
• Communicate effectively with other operations personnel and management in the event of alarms, unusual conditions, or emergencies
• Interact with the public, coworkers, vendors, customers, and contractors in a professional and courteous manner at all times and represent the Authority with pride and dignity
• Attend and participate in operational & safety training programs, technical seminars or workshops, and other professional development programs as directed by management
• Participate in departmental cross-training as directed by management
• Train others as directed by management
• Other tasks as assigned by management

Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid, unrestricted PA Driver’s License
• Respond on-scene of emergencies within 30 minutes of call
• Pass a criminal background check, physical, and drug screen
• Must obtain PA DEP Water License-Class E (distribution) within 24 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience in the water industry, construction, plumbing, excavation, or similar field
• PA DEP Water License-Class E (distribution)

Work Schedule:
Regular schedule is Monday through Friday 7AM to 3:30PM. Schedule is subject to change based on the Authority’s needs. Rotating schedule of one week on/two weeks off for after-hours emergency on-call duties, which may fluctuate based on staffing levels and the needs of the Authority. Emergency response includes weekends, nights, and holidays.

Physical Demands & Work Environment of Position:
• Frequent:
o Sitting while driving or in meetings
o Standing and walking on hard surfaces, uneven surfaces, and loose ground
o Stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and bending at the waist and neck
• Repetitive use of hands for simple grasping and manipulation
• Power grasping to use a shovel or other tools
• Visual acuity in the normal range with or without correction including depth perception
• Hearing in the normal audio range with or without correction to distinguish speech and other sounds (machinery, alarms, equipment)
• Must have the ability to:
o constantly lift 50 pounds
o frequently lift 75 pounds
o occasionally lift 100 pounds
o ascend & descend ladders onto elevated surfaces and into pits or trenches
o work outdoors in all weather conditions and at extreme temperatures
o wear protective and safety equipment as needed
• Position is exposed to:
o noise, vibrations, and other hazards created by operating equipment
o bright and/or dim lights
o electrical equipment
o toxic or caustic chemicals
