Job Overview:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 
Employees in this position will operate motorized equipment and perform semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance of water and sewer lines and supporting facilities; performs all other duties as assigned.   
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: 
 This is a broad class.  Employees whose positions are in the class may perform the same duties as a Maintenance Worker I at times.  Also on a temporary basis they may act as a Lead person or operate heavy equipment if qualified.  Immediate supervision may be exercised over one or two helpers.  Employees in this class work under general supervision and are held accountable for results ascertained by inspection usually after the job is completed.  The incumbent is expected to act in a professional, polite, respectful, courteous and considerate manner at all times. 
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK:  (Illustrative Only) 
 -Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks to construct, maintain and operate water and 
sewer lines, reservoirs, pump stations and all other related facilities. 
-Utilizes all types of water and sewer maintenance field equipment to perform tasks 
(includes various motor vehicles such as trucks, sewer rodding machine, flusher, and  
similar maintenance or construction equipment)    
-Repairs/maintains mechanical and pumping equipment. 
-Keep accurate records and makes reports of jobs. 
-Able to perform work accurately and effectively by following S.O.P.’s 
-Pay for acting rank after certified (in writing) to operate heavy equipment. 
-Repairs pavements, manholes, drains, culverts, and all other concrete/brick structures 
-All other duties as assigned 
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
Employees will be required to work non-standard hours/ emergency overtime in order to maintain public health and safety. Good knowledge of the work practices of the Water and Sewer Resources Department; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions; ability to read and understand blueprints; ability to operate a laptop/desktop computer; ability to analyze water samples in the field utilizing a hand-held
chlorine analyze; ability to operate leak detection equipment; demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness; ability to climb ladders, safely enter underground structures, bend, stoop, climb, twist, walk, stand for long periods of time and work in inclement weather. Good knowledge of safety rules and the use of power and hand tools; take PA-DEP operator certification exam annually until obtaining a passing score; must obtain a passing score on PA-DEP certification exam in Water Distribution System Operations (Class E certification) and/or Wastewater Collection Systems Operations (Class E, 4 certification) within two (2) years of accepting position; obtain operator license within same 2 year period. 
 
 ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  
 Considerable Water/Sewer Resources type construction and/or maintenance experience some of which shall have been at the level of Maintenance Worker I, and education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities. 
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 
 Possession of a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator’s license with proper class B CDL and tanker endorsement(s). Ability to obtain a class A CDL with an O endorsement (dump truck with tag trailer) within two (2) years of accepting position.

Must possess valid class B Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement. Required to have Tanker endorsement within three (3) months from hire date. Ability to obtain a class A CDL with an O endorsement (dump truck with tag trailer) within two (2) years of accepting position.
